The old librarian who fixed my rounding with one question
At a workshop in Portland last spring, an 80 year old volunteer watched me struggle with a rounded spine for 20 minutes and finally asked, "Why are you forcing the curve before the glue sets?" She showed me how she lets the text block sit in the press with light tension overnight, then shapes it in the morning, and my joints stopped cracking. Has anyone else found that slowing down the drying stage solves problems you thought were tool issues?
