Vent: my press board split right in the middle of a rush job
Last Tuesday I was cranking out a batch of 12 cloth-bound journals for a customer in Portland and my big pressing boards just snapped clean down the center. It happened while I had three stacks glued up and waiting, so I had to improvise with some scrap plywood and a couple of C-clamps from the garage. The books came out okay, but now I'm shopping for a proper replacement board and honestly, has anyone else dealt with a press board failing mid-project?

That reminds me of something my old mentor used to say about boards failing at the worst possible time. He always kept a spare piece of Baltic birch cut to size just for emergencies, said it saved him more than once. Glad the clamps did the trick for you, but you might want to look into maple plywood pressing boards. They hold up way better than solid wood because the layers keep any one piece from splitting straight through.
