Warning: Tried to save time by skipping the grain direction on a reback last night

I was in my basement workshop around 10 PM and cut the new spine piece parallel to the grain instead of perpendicular, and now the whole thing has this weird ripple along the hinge that I can't flatten out... anyone know how to fix a warped spine without starting over from scratch?

Wow, really? I gotta push back on this one. I actually don't think grain direction is that big of a deal for a reback if you're careful with your adhesive and pressure. I've done tons of spines with the grain running parallel and never had a ripple that couldn't be fixed with a little extra glue and a weighted press overnight. Maybe it's more about your technique than the paper itself, @sanchez.pat? Did you maybe not use enough paste or leave it too dry before you clamped it down?

Ughhh grain direction bites everyone at least once. So the ripple is along the whole hinge?
