Why does nobody talk about PVA glue drying in the bottle?

I grabbed my PVA from the shelf last week. It had been sitting maybe 4 months. Opened it up and it was a solid white chunk. Took me 2 hours to chip it out and clean the cap. Now I have to order a new one and wait 3 days. Anyone else store theirs upside down or am I doing this wrong?

Honestly I used to think people were being dramatic about this. PVA glue is cheap, I figured just stir it up or add a little water and it's fine. Then I left mine sitting for like 5 months and opened it to find a brick. Not even a soft gel, a literal brick. I spent a whole afternoon trying to save it and ended up just tossing the whole bottle in the trash. Now I'm on team upside down storage, it actually keeps the air out of the cap and I've had the same bottle last me over a year. It sucks that we gotta treat a $3 bottle of glue like it's some delicate thing, but that's just how it is.
