A retiree at the Columbus garden show said my fern notes were 'too tidy' and she was spot on
She pointed out I was writing down light and water needs but skipping how a plant actually behaves through the year, so now I keep a little calendar of when each fern unfurls, browns, and spreads in my own yard, and I swear I understand them better than any label ever taught me.
