Appreciation post: the guy at the plant swap in Tulsa who swore coffee grounds would fix my sad hydrangea
So about 5 months ago I hit up this little plant swap at a church parking lot in Tulsa, mostly to dump some extra spider plant babies on people. I got chatting with this older fella in a straw hat who had a whole folding table of cuttings, and he pointed at my sad blue hydrangea in the back of my truck and said the leaves were going yellow because the soil was too sweet and I should just work in a couple cups of used coffee grounds every few weeks. I figured it was one of those old gardener things that sounds nice but does nothing, and honestly I mostly did it because my wife was tired of me dumping grounds in the trash. Fast forward to now and that bush has 9 blooms on it, which is more than it has ever done in the 4 years I have owned it. I felt like a total goof for doubting the straw hat guy. Anybody else got a swap meet tip that actually panned out, or is this a fluke and my hydrangea was just finally happy?
