I called my grandma's spider plant advice nonsense for 3 years, then my pothos proved her right
My grandma in Buffalo kept telling me to water my houseplants with leftover water from boiling eggs, and I brushed her off as old wives' tale stuff for 3 years. Last month my pothos got yellow leaves and I was out of fertilizer, so I tried her weird trick with about 2 cups of cooled egg water once a week. Six weeks later the thing is pushing out 4 new leaves and the color is darker than it has been since I bought it. I looked it up and apparently the calcium in the shells does leach into the water, so she was onto something. Has anyone else tried this, and does it work on ferns or just the tough stuff?
How light are we talking though? Like half strength or even less than that? Ferns are way more sensitive than pothos and I've burned fronds before by going too strong. Do you dilute until the mix looks like weak tea or is there a certain ratio you stick to? Also curious if you water first then feed after, since dry roots seem to soak up way more and that could fry them faster.
