My grandma called my fiddle leaf fig a "spoiled houseplant" and she might be onto something
She keeps hers on a screened porch in Savannah with no schedule at all, just whatever rain comes through, and it's 6 feet tall with leaves bigger than my hand. Mine lives by a humidifier on a strict 7 day watering plan and drops a leaf every time I look at it wrong. She said plants that never get tested never get strong, which sounds like something she'd say about me too. Now I'm wondering if half my care routine is just me fussing instead of actually helping. Has anyone else gone from a rigid schedule to a looser one and seen better growth?
Six feet tall with leaves bigger than your hand and she does nothing? That is wild to me because I killed a fiddle leaf in three weeks with a moisture meter and a notebook. The part about plants never getting tested never getting strong actually makes sense though, since stress is what makes roots spread out and search for water. Maybe your grandma is just right and we are all out here loving our plants to death.
