My neighbor Marie said native plants are lazy gardening and it got me thinking

So I was out watering my black-eyed susans last Tuesday and Marie starts yelling over the fence about how planting native stuff is just giving up on real gardening. She grows these crazy hybrid roses that need constant babying and chemicals. But here's the thing - my patch has been thriving with zero fuss for 3 years, while her roses get aphids every June and she's always complaining. I get that natives aren't for everyone, but does putting in less work really make it less valid? Who else has had someone tell you your way of gardening is wrong just because it's different?

Put a birdbath in the middle of your native patch and watch Marie's face when the goldfinches show up instead of spraying chemicals on her roses.

Oh man, same thing happened with my finches and it totally changed my whole yard vibe.

Take it down a notch, it's just plants not a moral crusade.
