My neighbor saw my windowsill of pothos cuttings and asked if I was "running a nursery for broke people"
She came by Saturday to borrow a ladder and counted 14 jars of propagations on my kitchen sill. Then she said plants that "just sit there" were a waste of a good west window and I should grow tomatoes instead. Now I am second guessing the whole water propagation thing even though I have had 9 of those pothos root fine in 3 weeks. Anyone here keep a big propagation station going, or am I the only one who thinks watching roots show up is half the fun?
Your neighbor sounds like a joy. I have a whole shelf by my sink with cuttings in old spaghetti sauce jars and my sister calls it my "science project." Roots showing up in water is literally the best part, you can see it happening day by day, way more satisfying than waiting on a tomato that a squirrel will eat anyway. Nine out of fourteen rooting in three weeks is a great rate, don't let her talk you out of it. A west window full of happy pothos beats one sad tomato plant any day.
