My peace lily drooped for 6 weeks before I checked the roots

Honestly, I thought I was watering it right, but the leaves kept flopping over no matter what. Took me 6 weeks to finally pull it out of the pot and see the roots were completely wrapped in a tight ball. The nursery pot was way too small, so the water just ran out the sides. I repotted it into a 10 inch terracotta pot and it perked up in 3 days. Anyone else ever miss something that obvious with a houseplant for way longer than they'd like to admit?
