Serious question, my neighbor said coffee grounds would make my hydrangeas blue, now I have 3 pink bushes
She swore by it because her mother did it in Portland back in the 80s, but after 6 weeks of dumping my morning grounds on them nothing changed at all. Has anyone actually moved a hydrangea's color, or is it all just soil pH that takes way longer than people admit?
That line about her mother doing it in Portland back in the 80s is the whole thing right there. We pass down garden tricks like they're family recipes when half of them are just stuff someone heard once and never checked. Coffee grounds barely move your pH anyway, they're close to neutral once they break down, so your pink bushes never had a chance.
