Talked to an old gardener at the farmers market last Saturday
Been growing my own basil and tomatoes for a couple years now. Last weekend this lady selling herbs told me I should stop watering them every day and let them dry out between. She said I was basically drowning my plants lol. Tried it for a week and the leaves look way healthier. Anyone else get surprise advice from a random person that actually worked out?

Nah, I dump water on mine daily and they're doing just fine.

That overwatering thing is the number one mistake people make with herbs and tomatoes. Letting them dry out a bit forces the roots to go deeper looking for water, makes the plant way tougher. Your old gardener was spot on, especially if you're growing in pots where drainage can be tricky. Stick your finger an inch or two into the soil, if it's damp don't water yet. Wait till the leaves just barely start to droop, then give them a good soak.
