That one guy at the plant swap who said my pothos was 'basic' still bugs me

I was at the monthly plant swap at the community center on 3rd Street back in October, and this dude just walks up and goes, 'Oh, a golden pothos, how... standard.' Like, sorry I didn't bring some rare variegated monstera that costs $80. I've been growing that pothos for 4 years from a cutting my grandma gave me, and it has trails over 6 feet long. Has anyone else run into gatekeepers like that at plant events?

Standard" for a 6 foot trail from grandma's cutting? That's next level dedication.

Seen this at every wedding I've been to lately. Someone's grandma shows up with a cutting board and suddenly it's a whole heirloom situation.

Oh man, "how... standard" - that's exactly the kind of comment that sticks with you. I had a similar thing happen at our local garden club meetup last spring. Someone saw me carrying my little purple oxalis and said "those are everywhere now, kind of like the new pothos." I'd grown that thing from a bulb my neighbor gave me when she moved away. It's not about rarity, it's about the story behind it. Your grandma's pothos sounds amazing and that guy was just being a snob.
