The greenhouse at the county fair changed how I water my succulents

I was at the Franklin County Fair last Saturday and saw this old timer bottom-watering his entire display. He told me most people kill succulents by pouring water on top like they're thirsty for a drink. Anyone else switch to tray watering after seeing it work in person?

That old timer sounds like he's been growing succulents since before I was born. My own watering technique used to be "dump a whole glass of water on top and hope for the best," which is basically plant murder. Now I use a shallow dish and let them soak up from the bottom like a sponge. It's been a game changer for my collection of half dead jades.

Have you tried bottom watering on something like a mature jade though?
