TIL pine trees can basically choose their own shape based on wind

Was reading a park sign near the Oregon coast last Saturday and it said trees there grow shorter and bent because the wind kills off the top bud, so the side branches take over, and now I can't stop noticing every weird shaped pine on my commute, has anyone else seen this in their area?
