Took me 3 hours to figure out why my venus flytrap stopped closing
I noticed my venus flytrap wasn't snapping shut on bugs anymore. First I thought it was dying so I gave it more water. Then I moved it to a sunnier spot. After wasting 3 hours I finally looked up that they get tired from closing too much and need a rest period. Has anyone else had a plant just stop doing its thing for no obvious reason?

Same thing happened with my pitcher plant last fall... it just stopped producing any pitchers for almost a month. I was convinced it was dead until new ones started forming after I cut back the old leaves. These plants are weird about rest periods.

That "stopped producing pitchers" thing happened to mine too and @cole356 is right about the energy recovery. Have you been giving it a little less light or cooler temps to signal the rest period properly?

Tbh I had the same thing happen with my sundew last summer. It just stopped catching anything for like two weeks and I thought I killed it. Turns out they actually need that downtime after digesting a few bugs, same with flytraps. If yours caught a bunch of flies earlier, it's probably just taking a break to recover its energy. Give it a few more days of normal care and it should start snapping again.
