Why does nobody talk about choosing the right greenhouse shade cloth
I spent three weekends last summer trying to decide between 30% and 50% shade cloth for my little 6x8 greenhouse in Austin. Went with 30% because I figured Texas sun is brutal and I wanted maximum light for my tomatoes. Turns out that was a bad call. My basil bolted by late June and the lettuce turned bitter in about two weeks. Should have listened to the guy at the feed store who said 50% would keep things cooler and slow down the heat stress. Swapped it out last month and the difference is night and day, the plants just look happier and the soil stays damp longer. Has anyone else had to undo their first shade cloth pick or is it just me?
