Why does nobody talk about how balut is actually delicious and not some gross dare food?
I was at this Filipino spot in Jersey City last Saturday and ordered balut for the first time, mostly because my friend Dave kept daring me to do it. The lady behind the counter looked at me and said 'you eat it with salt and vinegar, not like a shot' and showed me how to crack the shell and sip the broth first. That broth was honestly better than any ramen I have had, rich and kinda gamey in a good way, and the yolk part tasted like a soft boiled egg but creamier. I ended up ordering a second one and Dave just sat there looking disgusted while I ate it. Is there anyone else out there who actually likes balut or am I the only weirdo?
I gotta disagree about it being some hidden gem everyone sleeps on. Balut gets plenty of love in the Philippines and at Filipino spots all over the US, it's just not a thing white folks in Jersey talk about. You liked it cause you actually tried it right, most people who hate it just never gave it a fair shot.
