Had to pull over and eat lunch in a church parking lot last week
I used to think nothing of eating my sandwich right in the truck while driving between jobs. But last Tuesday after a rough morning rewiring an old house on Elm Street, I parked in a church lot just to eat in peace. No radio, no phone, just me and a turkey on rye. It was about 11:30 and dead quiet except for some birds. I finished that lunch feeling way less frazzled than I normally do rushing around. Now I carve out 20 minutes to sit still somewhere, even if it's just a curb. Does anyone else have a random spot they go to for a quiet break?

...and you know what, that might be the most honest twenty minutes you'll spend all week. I've got a spot behind the old post office downtown, there's a bench nobody uses because it faces a brick wall. Been eating my lunch there for maybe six years now. The quiet does something to your brain, lets it sort through things without you even trying. I think the body craves that stillness more than we admit, especially when the work is hard on your hands.
