My neighbor's 7-year-old explained why my lawn care routine is pointless
I was out trimming my grass edges last Saturday when the kid from next door walked over and said I was just making the grass 'mad' and it would grow back faster. He was so serious about it, said his teacher told him grass gets stressed when you cut it too much. I laughed it off at first but then I looked up how grass actually works and yeah, frequent low cuts do stress the roots. Now I'm second guessing my whole Saturday morning routine. Has anyone else gotten life advice from a kid that actually made you change something?

You know what, that kid is probably right and now I'm questioning my entire adult existence. I spent two hours edging my lawn last Saturday and now I'm picturing all those stressed out grass blades just plotting their revenge. Next thing you know I'll be setting out tiny stress balls for the grass.

Now I'm picturing all those stressed out grass blades just plotting their revenge" - that line killed me because honestly, don't we all feel like our lawns are secretly judging us? But here's the real question though - if the kid's right about that, then what else are we all just doing out of habit that's completely backwards? I mean, think about it, how many of us just keep doing stuff because that's how our dads did it, without ever asking if it even makes sense? It's like we're all out here making our grass mad every Saturday and for what, bragging rights with the HOA?

Well that kid is going places with logic like that. Maybe we all need a 7-year-old pointing out the obvious so we can stop fighting imaginary battles with our lawns.
