Pro tip: setting up a home printer should not take 4 hours

Last Sunday I tried to install a new wireless printer for my wife's home office. Took me 4 hours to figure out it was a firewall setting in our router blocking the connection. The manual had nothing about it, just kept saying "check your network" over and over. Has anyone else had a simple tech setup turn into a nightmare over something dumb like this?

Four hours seems fast, actually printers are some of the most reliable tech I've ever owned.
