Rant: Everyone acts like slow cooking is the only way to make soup, but I disagree
I had a week last February where my slow cooker broke on Monday and I made soup on the stovetop every day instead. It tasted fresher and took only 45 minutes per batch, not 8 hours.

My slow cooker lasted three years before it gave out and I didn't miss it one bit. People act like stovetop soup is some kind of hack when really it's just cooking without a scheduled delay. Not sure why that requires a whole movement or debate.

The whole "slow cooking is the only way" thing is just like how everyone insists you need an air fryer or a bread machine to make good food at home. It's part of this bigger trend where people act like you have to buy special tools or spend all day to do something right. But really, half the time a basic pot and some patience work just as well if not better, don't you think?

Doesn't it feel like this whole "you need this thing" mindset has leaked into every part of life? I see it all the time with fitness too, where people swear you need a gym membership or expensive gear just to take a walk or do a few pushups at home. The slow cooker thing is just one example of how we've convinced ourselves that buying something is half the battle (when really it's just learning the basics and sticking with them). Same with home repairs or even budgeting apps. Everyone acts like a specialized tool or gadget will fix the problem, but half the time a pot, a pan, or a plain old piece of paper does the job just fine. It's like we've forgotten that people cooked perfectly good food for centuries before electricity or countertop appliances were a thing.
