Spent 3 hours trying to fix a leaky bathroom faucet that just needed a new O-ring

I swear my bathroom faucet started dripping last Tuesday and I thought it was a big deal. Took apart the whole handle, looked up YouTube videos for an hour, even ran to Home Depot twice for the wrong parts. Turns out it was just a $0.50 O-ring that was worn out. Has anyone else spent way too long on a simple fix like this?

Spent 3 hours myself. The drip always wins first.

Oh man, that's the worst feeling, right? I did the exact same thing last winter - spent a whole Saturday morning taking apart my kitchen sink and then realized the rubber gasket just needed to be pushed back into place. @david562 called it first, the drip always wins, and honestly I think that's true for half the projects I start. What made you finally stop and check the simplest thing, or did you just stumble on it by accident?

Did you just get that feeling where you are already too deep in the project to back out? That's how I end up in those situations, just stubbornly committed to fixing something that ain't broke.
