That chat with my neighbor Dave about lawn watering habits
I was out in my front yard last Tuesday in Austin and my neighbor Dave walks over and says I'm watering my St. Augustine grass all wrong. He showed me how his lawn stays green with just 20 minutes twice a week instead of my daily 10 minute sprinkling. It hit different because he had actual data from his smart sprinkler controller app proving the deep soak saves water and keeps roots stronger. Has anyone else had a random neighbor totally change how you do something simple like yard care?

@keithbutler nailed it. One thing I'd add though is those smart controllers can be finicky with St. Augustine since it's pretty touchy about getting too dry between soakings. Might need to tweak the schedule if you see it going pale.

Dave's right about deep soaking - roots grow deeper when you water less often but longer.

My neighbor once convinced me to aerate my lawn and I accidentally aerated my email subscription list instead.
