That one Wednesday shift that nearly broke me

Last month I had a Wednesday where the lunch rush just kept coming and we ran out of clean pint glasses because the dishwasher broke at 11am. The ice bin also jammed up right before happy hour and I had to hand chip ice for margaritas for 45 minutes straight. Has anyone else had a single shift that was just one thing after another with no time to catch your breath?

Honestly, hand chipping ice for 45 minutes sounds like my personal nightmare.

Yeah, "personal nightmare" is putting it lightly. Actually, here's something nobody's brought up yet - @norab21, have you considered that the ice you're chipping might not even be safe to eat? I read a thing about how old ice picks can leave metal shavings in the ice, especially if they're rusty. Plus, if that block of ice has been sitting around for a while, it's probably full of dust and whatever else settled on it. So you're spending 45 minutes doing hard labor for something that might taste like a dirty spoon. Really makes you question the whole "old fashioned" appeal.

Disagree totally with @norab21 on this one. There's something really satisfying about the work and the sound of the ice cracking off, plus it tastes way better than the weird freezer burn cubes you get from a tray.
