The 10 minute break timer changed how I actually rest
I used to just scroll my phone on break until I felt guilty and went back to work, usually staring at drywall dust and paint cans without really unwinding. About 4 months ago, I set a timer for exactly 10 minutes and forced myself to sit outside the job site with no screen, just listening to traffic on Meridian Ave and drinking lukewarm coffee from my thermos. That first week felt weird, like I was wasting time. But somewhere around the third day, I noticed my shoulders dropped and my brain stopped replaying the trim detail I messed up earlier. Now I do that every single break, even at home when I'm between tasks, and I actually come back fresher than when I downed two energy drinks and watched 20 second clips. The funny thing is, the timer ticking makes me commit to resting instead of half resting. Has anyone else tried a no phone break and noticed a real difference, or is this just my particular brand of weird?
