The janitor's tip about break room coffee changed my routine

Last Tuesday I was refilling my mug and the janitor, Mike, pointed at the burnt pot and said, 'You know, a pinch of salt fixes that bitter taste.' I tried it with the free office brew and it honestly worked. For three bucks a can of cheap grounds at the grocery store on Main Street, I've been making my own thermos at home now. Has anyone else found a silly little trick like that that made their workday easier?

Mike's trick reminds me of the old diner down on 5th where they keep a salt shaker right next to the sugar. The cook there told me it's about the minerals in the salt blocking the bitter stuff on your tongue. I tried it with a cheap dark roast I almost threw out, and now I can actually finish a whole mug. Oh, and here's the weird part, it works even better with a tiny pinch of cinnamon mixed in. Not fancy cinnamon, just the stuff in the spice aisle for two bucks. Makes the whole break room smell like a bakery for like ten minutes.
