Vent: Spent $80 on a meal kit service and threw half of it away

I signed up for that Green Chef box because a coworker swore by it. Three meals came with ingredients I never even used because the prep took twice as long as they said. One bag of kale was already wilted when I opened it, so that whole meal got trashed. I ended up ordering pizza two nights anyway, so I basically paid $80 for a few single-serving veggies. Has anyone actually gotten their money's worth from these things?

Green Chef is overpriced garbage. I tried Hello Fresh once and the portions were tiny for what they cost. These companies bank on people being too lazy to meal prep on Sundays. Make your own damn stir fry for $20 and you'll actually have leftovers.

Wait, @gibson.sarah don't Hello Fresh portions vary a lot by which plan you pick though? lol I got their family plan once and had enough leftover for lunch the next day.

Honestly, that "make your own damn stir fry" part hit hard because I've been there. The whole subscription thing feels like a tax on being tired after work. My trick is to double whatever recipe I'm making on Sunday and freeze half in single portions. That way when I'm too lazy to cook I just grab one of those instead of dropping $70 on a box of sad veggies. Plus you can control the salt and actually get full off it.
