I was buttering the back of every brick for 8 months before a guy at a site in Gary pointed at my head joint
I mean I thought more mortar meant a stronger bond so I was slapping it on thick and scraping the squeeze out with my trowel like it was doing something. He grabbed a level and showed me the wall was actually drifting out of plumb, since all that extra mud was pushing each course forward about a quarter inch. Any of you run into that, or do you just pack the head joints and leave the bed alone?
