PSA: I was buttering my bricks for 5 years like a fool

Last month a foreman on a job in Phoenix watched me slop mortar on and just shook his head. Turns out I was putting too much water in the mix and the bricks were shifting days later. Anyone else get called out for a basic technique they thought they had down?
