That week I tried to lay 500 bricks in one day and failed hard

Last summer I took on a backyard wall project in Phoenix and figured I could smash through it in a day... by hour 4 my back was screaming and I only had 200 down. Anyone else ever get too ambitious with a daily count and regret it?

Figured you'd get it done in a day like some kind of brick-laying machine, huh. I did the same thing with concrete pavers once and by noon I was laying on my driveway questioning every life choice that got me there. Phoenix heat in summer is basically a punishment for being too hopeful about manual labor. Bet you drank about 14 gallons of water and still felt like a dried-out sponge by hour 6.

Oh man, that Phoenix heat is no joke. I remember one time my brother and I tried laying down some sod in July because we thought "hey, it'll be fine." Four hours in we were sitting in the shade of the truck with our heads hanging down like we'd been defeated in battle. We ended up ordering pizza and just staring at the half-finished yard like it was some kind of monument to our bad decisions. That heat just sucks the soul right out of you.

Trowel on thin-set in small batches. That saved my back.
