Drove past my old grocery store last week and hardly recognized it
Stopped in for milk at the Food Lion I used to hit up every Friday when I worked days. The whole layout got flipped around and they added a fancy deli counter. But the prices on basics like eggs and bread went up about 30% since 2019. Anyone else notice their old cheap spots getting remodeled and getting pricier?

Food Lion's been doing this for years, they flip everything around just to make you wander through two extra aisles before you find the milk. The prices going up 30% sounds about right, but that's everywhere now, not just at the remodeled spots. A fancy deli counter doesn't change the fact that a gallon of milk costs the same as it does at the fancy grocery store five miles away. People get all worked up about a new paint job and some warm lighting, but it's still the same store with the same frozen pizza selection. Maybe it's not that serious, you know?

Gavin's right about the layout shuffle. I read somewhere that grocery stores do that on purpose to get you to see stuff you didn't come for. The 30% price jump lines up with what I've noticed at the old Giant near my route. Saw a report saying food prices overall went up like 25% since 2020, so maybe the remodel just gave them an excuse to bump it up a little more than usual.
