Groceries from the dollar section hit different when you break down the math

I grabbed a bag of frozen chicken breasts at the discount grocer for $6.50 last Tuesday. Usually I go to the regular supermarket and pay $10-$12 for the same thing. Dinner was fine, no weird texture or taste, just regular chicken. Have any of you found stuff at those random discount places that actually held up?

Read a piece online that said discount grocers often get overstock from bigger chains, so the food is the same stuff just repackaged. Bought a 5 pound bag of rice at a salvage store for $3 once and it was identical to the name brand bag I usually grab. Makes sense if you think about it, the supply chain is just rerouting extra inventory.

Worked at a distribution center for a year. One time we got a pallet of organic pasta that was going to be destroyed because a grocery chain changed their packaging. Labels were perfectly fine. Truck was already scheduled to dump it. Instead of trashing it, a salvage guy I knew scooped it up for pennies on the dollar. That pasta ended up at three different discount stores. Same product. Same factory. Just a different sticker slapped on the bag. The waste in this system is insane.
