Just learned the average person spends $1,497 a year on impulse buys

I was reading a report from the National Endowment for Financial Education last night and that number floored me. It made me check my own bank statements from last year, and honestly, I wasn't far off. Has anyone else actually tracked their own impulse spending and been surprised by the total?

I started using a 24-hour rule for any non-essential purchase. It's amazing how many things I just forget about and don't actually need. That simple wait really cut down my impulse spending.

Yikes, that's a scary number. I should try what @mason.brian does with the waiting period. My Amazon cart is probably half stuff I'd never miss.
