Just realized the 'buy cheap, buy twice' mantra isn't always true

I was at a hardware store last Saturday and overheard a guy telling his friend you gotta spend big on tools or you'll regret it. But I've been using a $20 socket set from Harbor Freight for 4 years now and it's still holding up fine. My buddy spent $150 on a name brand set and snapped two sockets last month while changing his truck's oil. I'm not saying cheap is always better, but for basic home stuff, those budget picks can last if you're not a pro using them daily. Anyone else have a cheap tool that's outlasted expectations?

Yeah my $15 drill from a pawn shop has outlasted two of my neighbor's fancy DeWalt ones.

Bruh that's literally what happened to my buddy Tim. He picked up this oldschool Black & Decker at a garage sale for like 8 bucks, thing looked like it survived a war. Meanwhile his dad bought him a brand new Milwaukee for christmas one year and it started smoking after like 3 months of light use. Tim still uses that garage sale drill to this day, it just keeps going. The new one's in a landfill somewhere probably. Really makes you wonder where the quality went.
