My $5 thrift store find saved me from a $200 mistake

I needed a new winter coat but couldn't afford the $200 one I wanted. I went to the Goodwill on Maple Street and found this old wool coat for $5. It looked rough, but I spent a weekend cleaning and patching a small tear in the lining. Now it's my favorite thing and just as warm. Anyone know other ways to fix up cheap clothes that last?

Thrift store finds are the absolute best. I have a few wool sweaters I got for like three bucks each and they've lasted me years with just a little care. Hand washing in cold water with some gentle soap makes a huge difference. For patching holes, I grab matching thread and do a simple stitch, nothing fancy. A lot of people throw away good stuff because of a loose button or a tiny tear, and it's such a waste. You can fix most things up in like twenty minutes if you have a basic sewing kit. Saving money and keeping clothes out of the landfill is a win win in my book.

@jordan903 I found a cashmere sweater for four bucks last week and fixed a tiny hole in ten minutes.

Woah wait @laura_allen you found a cashmere sweater for four bucks? That's wild, I've never gotten that lucky at my local thrift. Those things are usually like $30+ even used.
