Overheard my coworker say she saves $60 a month just by buying store brand pantry staples
She showed me her receipt from Aldi last Tuesday and the total was half of what I paid at the big chain for the same stuff, so now I am thinking about making the switch, has anyone else noticed a big difference in quality with store brand stuff?

Cracked open a jar of store brand mayo last month and my wife walked in, took one look at my sandwich, and asked if we were having a "financial crisis meeting later." So yeah, I feel that kid's stare down. But honestly, I've found some store brands are totally fine while others make you question your life choices. Like the Aldi brand sour cream is basically the same as the name brand, but their canned soup tastes like regret in a bowl. The real trick is just figuring out which store brand stuff you can get away with and which ones you gotta pay up for. You probably already know this, but what items are you most worried about messing up?

Nah man, I actually prefer store brand ketchup. Tastes less sugary to me.

Joke all you want but I switched to store brand ketchup once and my kid literally looked at the bottle and asked if we were broke now. So there’s definitely some standards involved.
