Saw a guy at the Pasadena flea market haggle a $2 sticker down to a dollar, then pay with a $100 bill
The seller had to dig through a coffee can of ones to make change, and the whole time the guy kept saying 'support small business, right?' Has anyone else watched a cheap buyer turn into a huge hassle over pocket change?
That line about "support small business, right?" is doing a lot of heavy lifting for a guy who just talked a seller out of a whole dollar. Haggling over pocket change is one thing, but making someone count out ones from a coffee can just to feel like a big spender is where I get off the train. Small businesses get supported when you pay them fairly, not when you nickel and dime them and then hand over a bill that wipes out their whole cash drawer.
