That $5 infrared thermometer I bought keeps proving how wrong people are about their ovens

Borrowed a friends thermometer gun last month to check why my cookies kept burning on one side. Set my oven to 350 and actual temp was bouncing between 310 and 390. Talked to three neighbors on my street about it and all of them had the same problem with different brands. Spent 5 bucks on my own meter at harbor freight and now I check every time before I bake. Has anyone else found oven temps way off even with newer models?

Wait my friend Jenna was bragging about her brand new KitchenAid range last Christmas and I finally told her to check because her cakes kept sinking in the middle. She temped it at 350 and the thing was actually running at 420 on that setting, no wonder everything was burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. The repair guy said the sensor was just defective from the factory, so it really doesn't matter how much you spend.
