That week I found a $30 coupon hidden in a broken light fixture

Last spring I was cleaning out old stock at the hardware store and found a beat up box with a $30 manufacturer rebate taped inside the lid. It had expired two years ago but the company honored it anyway. Has anyone else scored a good deal from checking places nobody looks?

Finding stuff in broken light fixtures" reminds me of something my buddy Dave pulled off. He was helping his grandma clean out her attic and found an old coffee can full of $2 bills tucked behind some insulation. The bank told him they were still legal tender so he walked out with like 200 bucks for an hour of work.

Honestly my buddy Jake had a similar thing happen when he was tearing down an old shed for his uncle. He found a mason jar buried under a floorboard that was stuffed with old silver coins and some really beat up paper money. Turns out his uncle's dad used to stash cash in random spots around the property because he didn't trust banks. The silver coins alone ended up being worth way more than face value at a coin shop he went to. Ngl I was a little jealous when he told me about it, like my attic finds are usually just old socks and mouse droppings.

My grandfather had a similar thing with old coffee cans hidden in his garage rafters. It makes me think how different people used to be with their money before everyone had a bank account and direct deposit. My neighbor's mom found a bunch of war bonds in an old mattress she was throwing out, and the interest had turned a tiny investment into a few grand. There's got to be a lot of hidden cash and forgotten valuables sitting in basements and attics from that whole generation, just waiting for someone to tear down a wall.
