The $2 bread knife that almost cost me a finger at a church potluck
Last Sunday at St. Mark's potluck I grabbed what looked like a decent bread knife from the community kitchen. Turned out it was so dull I had to push down hard to slice through a sourdough loaf. The blade slipped right off the crust and sliced open my thumb pretty good. Spent the rest of the dinner with a bandage and a paper plate of Jell-O. Has anyone else had a cheap kitchen tool turn into a danger zone at a public event?

Man that sounds rough lol. Dull knives are honestly more dangerous than sharp ones because you gotta force them and they just bounce off whatever you're cutting. The worst I ever saw was at a family reunion where somebody brought that cheap translucent plastic handled knife from a dollar store to cut a watermelon. It literally snapped in half mid slice and the blade part flew across the table almost hit my aunt in the face. People really need to stop trusting those bargain bin tools at shared events. At least church potlucks usually have good first aid kits nearby.

My uncle Gerald showed up to our 4th of July cookout with one of those cheap serrated bread knives from the gas station to slice brisket. The handle literally twisted off in his hand on the third cut and the blade went clattering across the driveway. My cousin's dog grabbed it and ran off thinking it was a toy so we had to chase him around the yard for 10 minutes. Ended up using a hunting knife from somebody's truck to finish the job. Last time I ever let anyone bring their own knife to a family gathering. Now I just pack my own basic kitchen set in a toolbox and let people borrow if they ask nice.

People really underestimate how bad gas station knives can be.
