Thought I was saving money buying the cheap faucet cartridges, then my Saturday went up in smoke

After replacing the same cheap cartridge three times in six months at $8 each, I finally spent $35 on the brass one and it's been running smooth for over a year, so was I just being cheap or is there a real cutoff where spending more actually pays off?

Save you the drama" lmao @felix_williams71 I felt that. But honestly, if I can save myself one Saturday of kneeling under a sink, I'll take the $35 part any day.

I mean, it's a faucet cartridge, not a car engine. You're talking about thirty bucks difference over a year and a half. Call me when you're dropping hundreds on a part that fails again, then I'll get excited. People act like a Saturday ruined by a plumbing project is the end of the world, but honestly, how much were you really gonna get done anyway? Probably just sitting on the couch watching TV. The cheap ones work, they just don't last as long, so you're paying either way. Maybe just buy the cheap ones and keep a spare on hand, saves you the drama of pretending like you're making a big life choice.

Oh come on, is nobody gonna mention the water bill angle? A cheap cartridge that drips for months before you get around to swapping it can cost way more than the fancy one ever would in wasted water. You're not just paying for the part, you're paying for the peace of mind that your utility bill isn't slowly leaking out of your sink.
