TIL my $30 blender can't handle frozen mango chunks

Last Tuesday I tried making a smoothie with frozen mango and my cheap blender just started smoking after about 10 seconds. The smell was awful and now the motor sounds like a dying fan. I ended up dumping the whole thing and just eating the mango pieces plain. Has anyone found a decent budget blender that actually gets through frozen fruit without breaking? I only spent $30 on this one and I'm thinking maybe I need to go up to $50 or $60.

$30 for a blender? That's wild, my first one was $20 from a grocery store and it literally cracked the jug on the second use with some strawberries I'd frozen. I remember that acrid burning plastic smell, it stuck in my kitchen for days. For the $50 to $60 range, I grabbed a Ninja Fit on sale last year and it chews through frozen mango like it's nothing, just have to do a quick pulse before full blending.

Oh wow, yeah that burning plastic smell is something you never forget, it like sits in your nose for days no matter how much you air out the place... I feel your pain on just eating the frozen chunks plain, done that more times than I care to admit. Jade's right about the Ninja Fit though, I got one after my second Walmart special died on some ice cubes and it's been going strong for over a year now. The trick is that pulse thing she mentioned, you gotta let it break the big frozen bits down slowly before you hold that button down or you'll just smoke another motor. Honestly I think the jump from $30 to $50 is totally worth it, you're not just paying for a name you're paying for a motor that won't give up on you mid smoothie. Your next blender will probably outlast your current one by like five years if you spend a little more upfront.
