TIL that most store brand cereals are made in the same factories as the name brands

I was reading an article on Consumer Reports last night about budget food buying, and it said that like 80% of generic cereals are literally the same recipe as Kellogg's or General Mills just in different boxes... Why are we paying double for a cartoon character on the front when the store brand tastes identical?

The whole "gets soggy faster" thing feels like a myth to me though. I've done side by side taste tests and honestly couldn't tell a difference between generic and name brand.

I mean, idk, a lot of the time the store brand cereal gets soggy way faster for me, or the flavor is just a little off. Maybe it's just me, but I swear some of them aren't identical.

Ngl, I totally agree with you on the "flavor is just a little off" part. Tried a store brand Frosted Flakes knockoff last month and it just tasted like sweet cardboard with none of that actual corn flavor.
