Watch the register at the 99 Cents Only that just reopened
I popped into the 99 Cents Only on Main and 12th last weekend, the one that shut down for two months. The shelves looked fine, but the new self-checkout machine charged me $5.07 for three items that clearly rang up as $1.25 each on the screen. I caught it because I do quick math in my head from years of couponing, but the guy behind me had a $23 receipt for what should have been $14. Has anyone else seen these new terminals there, or is it just that location?
Had the same thing happen at the one off Broadway before they closed. Turned out the new software was adding a "recovery fee" on every single item without telling anyone. I started taking a pic of the screen right after I scan each thing. Caught a $0.80 bump on a bag of chips that way. Store manager refunded me but said it was a "glitch." Sure it was. Now I always check the little line items before I tap my card, takes like 10 extra seconds and saves me from getting rinsed every trip.
