Bought the "jumbo" bag of rice but it wasn't actually cheaper per pound
I was at the local Market Basket last week and grabbed the 20 pound bag of jasmine rice for $16.99 thinking it was a steal. Then I did the math - the small 2 pound bag was $1.99 which comes out way cheaper per pound. Everyone just assumes bigger is better but you gotta check those unit prices or you're throwing money away. Has anyone else found other stuff where the smaller size is actually the better deal?

Totally been there. I started keeping a little notebook in my kitchen (yeah, I'm that person) where I jot down the unit price of stuff I buy a lot. It's a game changer. For example, I found out the big jar of peanut butter at my store is actually more expensive per ounce than the medium one. Also check the store brand vs name brand too, sometimes the smaller store brand is the real winner. It takes a minute at the store but saves so much over time.

Wait does your notebook include the per ounce cost for different package sizes of the exact same brand?

I read somewhere that stores actually design their pricing to trick you into thinking bigger is always cheaper. They bank on people not doing the math. So you're smart to actually check.
