Can we talk about how dried beans are actually more expensive than canned?
I always thought dried beans were the budget winner until I did the math last week. At my local Kroger, a 1-pound bag of dried black beans is $2.50, but a 15-ounce can is only $1.20. After cooking, that pound gives me about 6 cups, which is the same as three cans at $3.60 total. So canned actually saved me $1.10 and a lot of soaking time. Has anyone else checked their own numbers on this?

A 15-ounce can actually gives you about 1.5 cups after draining, not 2 cups.

Nah I gotta push back on that. I've drained plenty of 15 ounce cans and gotten damn close to 2 full cups. Depends on the brand and how long you let it drain. Some of those cheap store brands pack way more liquid in there. If you really squeeze the beans or press them down you can get almost 1.75 cups easy. Maybe you're just not letting them drain long enough or you're using a different measuring standard.
