Hot take: my $1.29 bag of dried lentils fed me lunch for 6 days straight and I feel cheated by rice
Last Monday I was digging through the back of the pantry in my apartment in Akron and found a bag of brown lentils I bought back in March for $1.29. I dumped the whole thing in a pot, added half an onion, a few sad carrots, and a spoon of the cheap curry powder, and I ate out of that pot for six days. Compare that to a 5 lb bag of rice that set me back $4.50 and still left me hungry by 3pm every day. I'm not saying rice is bad, I'm saying I ignored lentils for years because they looked like bird food and now I feel like I wasted a lot of grocery runs on the wrong cheap staple. What's the one dirt cheap ingredient you slept on way too long?
