I always bought the cheapest rice until my $5 bag from the Asian market changed everything last month
For 4 years I thought store brand white rice was fine, but after my cousin in Chicago told me to rinse it 3 times and use a 2:1 water ratio, the texture was so different I felt like I'd been eating flavored cardboard, what am I supposed to do with my old 20 lb bag now?

Rinsing three times was the game changer for me too, I used to skip it and wondered why my rice was always gummy. For the old bag, just keep it for soups or fried rice where texture matters less, or donate it to a food pantry if you really can't stomach it.

My cousin tried that same trick with sushi rice and now he refuses to eat rice anywhere else. He even brought his own bag to a barbecue last summer, which was weird because they had a whole table of sides. The leftover cheap rice works great for rice pudding though, just load it up with cinnamon and sugar and nobody can tell the difference. Or you could do what my neighbor does and use it as a doorstop until you forget why it's there.
